Today I remembered we have an Artisan Crafts category.

I've been wanting to show this in DA for a while, but now that there's really a section for it everything is peachy keen. This was my final project for a Graphic Design class I did probably like, a year ago. The concept was to make an "Artist Book". But we were encouraged to make it not shaped like an actual book, and it was meant to be mostly visuals and represent something that was important to us.

There's alot important to me, but I can't ignore the fact that the all-encompassing force in my life is my comics, stories and characters So once I had settled on that idea I had to work out exactly HOW I was going to do it.

And this is what I came up with: A box (which I constructed myself with alot of help from the Professor.. in class). My mother took the photos for the outside. Eyes on the front, an ear on each side, and a photo of the back of my head on the back. And the title "inside my head" on the top. I had scanned the photos, manipulated them, printed them out, cut them to size, and glued them to the outside of the box. Then I sprayed a fixative on them to keep them safe from fingerprints.

As you can see when you open it the insides are plastered with the TSFH comic and various pictures, the phrase "It sure is Purple in here" on the inside lid (well the photos make it look blue, and the outside is more blue, but trust me its purple inside ). And then my favorite part. Printed out on lots and lots of accordian folded, textured brochure paper all taped securely together is tons of my artwork, manipulated together, and slapped with a purple overtone. This is meant to represent a "stream of thoughts". You can pull it out with a little string and as you can see from the bottom picture its VERY LONG It comes right up to my EYES, no joke. So that makes it about 5 feet long. Its glued into the bottom of the box.

Anyway. The reaction from my Professor at the art show at the end of the semester was thus: "I LOVE it, you crazy woman!"
